Their surface area actually increases at the nanoparticle scale to infuse these miniature building blocks with unique magnetic, mechanical, structural, optical, and electrical properties that are different from the same chemical at a larger size. Some scientists believe that these properties, known as quantum mechanical effects, hold the promise of revolutionary discoveries yet to come. Others are concerned they may unleash a flood tide of human and environmental health issues.   <\/p>\n<p>This White Paper explores the world of nano-science from it&#8217;s surprisingly ancient roots to its modern day applications. It goes on to examine regulatory issues and summarizes key analytical technologies for measuring and testing nanomaterials of many types. From carbon nanotube defect detection to impurities in cosmetic nanoparticles. Techniques covered in this White Paper are UV\/Vis\/NIR spectrometry, as well as evolved gas analysis combining a TGA or STA analyzer with an FT-IR spectrometer and a GC\/MS.
